Radio Lingua Schools has been working with Gavinburn Primary in West Dunbartonshire, supporting their innovative Winter Olympics project. Pupils in primary 3 and 4 are working on a project based around the theme of the Winter Olympics and each class has taken on the role of one of the participating countries. The pupils have been learning about the country and the sports which feature in the Olympics, and we’ve provided a series of language lessons for the children in Norwegian (p3), Russian (p4/3) and Japanese (p4). The pupils will be working on these podcasts to learn the basics of the language over the next few weeks.

The courses are made up of five 2-3 minute lessons in each language, and with Gavinburn’s permission we’re providing the podcasts here so that other schools can make use of them. Let us know if you’ve used them with your pupils! To find out more about the Winter Olympics project and about how the teachers are using Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympics as part of the project, listen to the latest episode of the Consolarium podcast in which Ollie Bray interviews head teacher Gillian Penny.

If you’d like to learn more Norwegian, Russian or Japanese with your pupils, have a look at our mini courses in the One Minute Languages series. The audio for these courses is available for free on the Radio Lingua site, and we provide school licences for the courses too. Have a look at how one school has been using the Mandarin Chinese version of this course here.
